Student Learner – A Secondary School Student
In this detailed painting, the artist elegantly crafted a woman’s portrait in front of an abstract landscape, making use of the colours purple, green, and black. According to Stockl (2019), “painting affords showing (even fictitious) entities in full physical detail and visualizing a narrative; writing affords telling, interpreting that story and explain an image” (pg. 47). In this painting, when looking at the woman, you are instantly drawn to the details of her curls. The painting perspective allows you to see what looks like fields, hills, and valleys behind the woman. The scene is a mix of various patterns that invite you on a journey through its undulating landscape.
The drawing below is from the student’s sketchbook that is used regularly throughout their visual arts secondary school course.
